Grunt fibreglass boat cleaner 1L and 500ml Product bottles

Definitely not. whilst Grunt boat cleaner is a fibreglass cleaner it is safe to use on most surfaces. The exception being bare aluminum. Not only is it safe to use on teak and stainless steel it will in fact clean your stainless steel and your teak. It can remove those nasty looking rust stains seen under stainless steel fittings. It can “brighten” teak from the dull grey look associated with weathering timber.

Grunt boat cleaner has not damaged your antifouling and it will continue to work as normal. Antifoul is water-sensitive and will streak even with rainwater running down the hull. It will turn back to its normal uniform colour when immersed in the sea, river or lake.

Yes. Grunt! It is safe to use on all two-part marine paints and yacht enamels. It will achieve the same results as using on gelcoat. It will remove yellow/brown waterline stains, rust stains, bird lime, limescale and general yellow discolouration. In fact Grunt! is generally safe to use on most surfaces. Always try on an inconspicuous area first.

Treating isolated areas of your boat will produce “clean spots”. These may not be too noticeable if your boat is dull or faded. Applying a coat of wax enhances these “clean spots” showing how dirty the rest of the boat really is! To avoid this it is advisable to treat the entire area with Grunt boat cleaner and leave your boat really clean.

No. Grunt! boat cleaner works by a gentle chemical reaction. The product needs to be allowed time to work. Grunt! boat cleaner penetrates into the pores in the gelcoat. It uses a chemical reaction to gently neutralise and absorb the staining. This does not affect the gelcoat in any way.

To use Grunt Boat Cleaner simply apply to the stained area with a paint brush. Wait 3-4 minutes or so while Grunt does the hard work. It neutralises and absorbs the stain. After 3-4 minutes rinse off. It really is that simple. Wash off with a sponge and water. Please do not scrub or rub at Grunt! during the 3-4 minutes.

One of the distinct advantages of using Grunt! boat cleaner is that it can be used regularly without any adverse effects on the gelcoat. Conventional abrasive cleaners, however, work by removing a layer of the gelcoat to expose a fresh layer. With gelcoat so thin on many production boats this process if carried out a  few times can wear through the gelcoat. Using abrasive cleaners can often result in a full respray of your boat. An expense most boat owners will wish to avoid at all costs! Use Grunt!

Whilst designed for use on fibreglass boats, Grunt! boat cleaner also works brilliantly on most two-part marine paint systems and yacht enamels typically used on steel or timber boats.

This will depend on where you keep your boat. Boats kept in fast flowing clean water will stay cleaner for longer. Boats kept in stagnant water where pollution may be high such as commercial ports will accumulate dirt and stains much faster. Boats tend to get dirtier quicker where they are close to an airport and below a flight path.

You can apply a high quality marine carnauba wax which seals the surface helping prevent further staining.

If you have applied a wax polish to your boat you will have sealed the surface. This will hinder the performance of Grunt! boat cleaner. It can not reach the stain to remove it as the wax is acting as a barrier.

Wash the boat down with any good quality boat wash product. We recommend “Boat Buddy All Over Boat Wash”. This will remove the wax polish applied. Then use Grunt! as directed. This will ensure Grunt! boat cleaner can get into the pores of the gelcoat. Gently neutralise and absorb the stains enabling them to be washed away with water and a sponge.

Always, wear your PPE (personal protection equipment, ie: goggles, gloves etc) when handling any chemical. Each persons’ skin can react differently to natural or synthetic chemicals. Some people can even be allergic to particular types of supermarket soap. So it is important to always wear your PPE. See our First Aid measures on the “application manual” page.
